Welcome to the Reading
and West Berkshire Branch
Information for Wheelchair and Scooter Users.
Public transport should become more accessible for wheelchair users in
the future.
New regulations mean that, in future, all trains, buses and
taxis have to be designed
to carry wheelchair travelers. 'Get
Wheelchair Wise' is a booklet containing information
about how to get
the best from public transport.
If you prefer to get about under your own steam, there is a Highway Code
available,
specifically for Wheelchair and Electric Scooter Users. It
gives lots of useful information
about where and how you can safely
drive your vehicle.
To obtain a free copy of either of the above, please contact BHTA
Publications on
020 7702 2141 or email bhta@bhta.com
There are also a number of links to potentially useful information at the BHTA site.
The national disability charity, The Winged Fellowship Trust, has a new
name. They
are now known as Vitalise.
Vitalise provides holidays for disabled people and breaks for their
carers, based
on individual need, at five accessible UK Centres in
Cornwall, Nottingham, Southport,
Essex and Southampton. At Churchtown in
Bodmin, Cornwall, holidays can be provided
with or without care, and at
the other Centres care is provided on-
staff.
They can be contacted on 020 7017 3420 or
Could You Be Paying Less Council Tax ?
A reduction in the amount of Council Tax you are paying, could be applied for if
you or any adult resident in your home is ‘substantially and permanently disabled'.
This
scheme is not means tested and if you are entitled to other help with Council Tax,
