Welcome to the Reading
and West Berkshire Branch

Motor Neurone Disease Association
We are an independent charity, with a national office in Northampton and over 80 Local Branches nationwide. Welcome to the web site for the Reading and West Berkshire Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND Association). We have the sole aim of serving all those in the area who are affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND). This includes people with MND, their carers, family and friends.
Motor Neurone Disease, sometimes known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), is an incurable condition that paralyses the muscles leaving people unable to do the everyday things the rest of us take for granted. Walking, talking and swallowing may become virtually impossible, yet the mind and senses remain intact.
Nobody affected by Motor Neurone Disease should have cause to feel isolated. Your Local Branch will make you welcome and give you the opportunity to meet with and help, other people in the same situation. Local Branches are run by teams of volunteers, many of whom either have MND, are carers or have known someone with the disease. Committee members are needed to take responsibility for things like fundraising, publicity, newsletters and organizing events.

Carol Allen visits Mrs Anne Smith, who is living with MND, at her home in Thatcham.
Getting involved with your Local Branch is an excellent way of meeting people in similar circumstances and supporting the work of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND Association). New members are always welcome, whether or not they have experience of the disease, their help is greatly appreciated. We always need volunteers for a variety of jobs with the Local Branch.
For further information about the work of the Association, or up to date information regarding the disease, care and research, please visit the National Office website at www.mndassociation.org.
